Band Class PROGRAM

Play Together.
Perform Together.
Grow Together.

Take your musical skills beyond solo lessons and experience what it is like to play in a real band.

Our Band Class Program at Sounds N Shapes Blacktown is designed for students who already play an instrument and are ready to build confidence, coordination, timing, and ensemble skills in a supportive group setting.

This program is ideal for students who want to challenge themselves, work with other musicians, and prepare for a live performance at the Sounds N Shapes End of Year Concert.

This is not a beginner program. Students are expected to practise their assigned parts between sessions so that rehearsal time can be used effectively for ensemble coordination and performance preparation.

Who Can Join?

This program is open to:

  • Experienced students only

  • Students who have been learning an instrument for minimum 1–2 years

  • Sounds N Shapes students and external students

  • All instruments welcome for audition

If you are a current Sounds N Shapes student and would like to join, your teacher will help prepare you for the audition.

Why Join BAND CLASS?

Band Class gives students the opportunity to move beyond individual playing and develop the essential skills needed to perform with others. Each student will be allocated a song to practise in their own time. Band sessions are focused on learning how to coordinate and play with other students and instruments, rather than individual tuition.

Students will learn how to:

Play in time with other musicians.

Listen and respond within a group setting.

Improve coordination and ensemble awareness.

Build confidence through collaborative music-making

Prepare for performance in a band environment

Part 1: AUDITIONS

  • The audition is not about passing or failing, it is used by our teachers to ensure each student is placed in the right group and set up for success.

    Through the audition, teachers assess:

    • your child’s current skill level and readiness

    • their ability to play in time and follow structure

    • their musical style and suitability for a band setting

    • how well they may match with other students and instruments

This helps us create balanced bands where students can:

    • learn effectively

    • collaborate confidently

    • enjoy the experience of playing together

Only students who are ready for ensemble playing will be invited to join the program.

    • Students must have a minimum of 1–2 years experience on their instrument

    • All instruments are welcome

    • Audition video must be 1–3 minutes in length

    • Students may perform any song of any style

    • Open to Sounds N Shapes students and the public
